The chemical company Merck in Darmstadt, Germany will license ink-jet ink technology from electronics manufacturer Seiko Epson in Tokyo for the manufacture of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television displays. So we investigated the chemical composition of inkjet inks, both pigment based and dye based inks. Yes, I realize that it's a genetic issue with our six-legged buddies, but with screen printing, especially industrial screen printing, the chemistry of the inks and substrates we use are the genetics of the breed. With so many forms of digital inkjet printing, why are so many products still being screen printed and why are so many new products choosing screen print? The inks have good physical and chemical stability for industrial single pass ink jet printing. Pigment based inks have a reactive component and dye based inks do not. Even with special fabric and chemical treatment, Inkjet ink will fade. Chimigraf has a set of pigmented ceramic inks with high color intensity and chromatic reproduction. There is a good article about printing photos and labels on fabric on Quiltbug.com. Ink-jet technology is also used a lot in the chemical and micro-technology world, and most recently has become the foundation for 3D printing technology. Inkjet ink will wash out or bleed if you don't use the right chemicals.
